A Random "Afternoon Question"

I've picked up Taj Mahal again and while stitching is going ok on it, it's not moving along as fast as I'd like. No one to blame but me though, as I've been catching up on DVR'ed shows while I stitch. There are some shows where I just have to listen to but pay most of my attention to stitching. But some like The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Fringe, and White Collar (Matt Bomer... c'mon... who'd want to do anything else but watch him? LOL!!!), I find myself watching more than stitching. Might need to give the DVR a break tonight, and put on some music or stitch in silence. ;)

What about you guys? Do you watch tv or listen to anything while you stitch? Do you prefer having things going on or silence when you're stitching?

I can stitch when it's quiet, but it's sort of boring. It's more fun to work on stuff like that if TV or the radio is on, and I get bored if I just sit while TV is on, too.

Watch or listen, I dont really mind which!
I'm working my way through the Avengers TV series at the moment from the 60s, although I've been thinking that it's time for a good costume drama, maybe Gaskell's North & South. I also listen to audio books sometimes, because that stops me from getting distracted and finding that I'm watching instead of stitching

Depends on my mood and on what I am stitching. Sometimes music, sometimes tv and silence when it has been a very busy day.

I like to watch TV while stitching, but if I really want to complete some stitching goals, I have to turn off the tv, and just stitch in silence ;)

I usually watch anime or some TV series as I stitch. I have some "stitchy" series that allow me to stitch more - the ones with less action/drama, or filler episodes, or the scary ones! Because on scary scenes I just hide behind the fabric and pay EXTRA attention to my stitching untill it's all over! XD

I'm always listening to tv/podcasts/radio, but I can't stitch while watching White Collar or Doctor Who, at least not the first time I see an episode.

(Also, hi, it's Becca! I'm moving this Saturday, but I'm still happily stitching, and I should catch up with you.)

Hmmm well a lot of the time I have to sit thru numerous playings of the latest kiddy fave.... from Cinderella, Barbie movies and Barney to the older kids Transformers etc, in the evenings I usually have to t.v on and just listen, or if there is nothing on I put one of my classic movies on likes Pride and Prejudice, if DH is home and watching something I can't even stand to listen to I put an audion book on my ipod and listen to that in peace :D

I like to have the tv on. I can't stitch whilst watching Doctor Who especially when it was David Tennant lol.

I stitch faster with nothing on the TV but hubby likes to watch something in the evening, mainly I just listen to the TV and watch my stitching! If I really want to watch a program I amandon my stitching (temporarily)

I can not function when it's quiet. I always have the TV on (though I rarely watch it). Sometimes I will glance up from my stitching to see TV, but not often. If it's quiet in here, I have a hard time concentrating, lol. Call me weird!

I'm an audiobook junkie. Almost always have a book on my Ipod, or some music. I actually can't stitch in silence anymore.
The audiobook listening has an interesting side effect though: if it's a really good book then I get tons and tons of stitching done, but if it's a lousy book... well, then I don't stitch so much! lol!

See, my trick is to watch very BAD TV - that way I don't forget to stitch... LOL!

I have to have either the TV on or be listening to a podcast or audiobook. But my husband does laugh when I ask him what's going on in a TV programme cause I only listen to it!

Hi Joyce, in fact when I am stitching, I used to switch on the TV but I don't watch at it : I hear people speaking only :-))

Jo who can't think of a clever nickname said...

I'm like Isadarena! I recognise people from TV by their voices not their faces now.

I tend to stick to the music channels, Kerrang is great because I stitch really fast with the fast music!

Do you also find when you pick up the stitching the next day you can rememeber exactly what you were watching when you stitched a particular bit?

I find that sometimes I crave the silence. It allows me to stitch and mull over things. That helped big time last night until I got to the 'enclosing' section where it was just 1 color over and over again and I found myself getting bored and falling asleep. So, NCIS got some love. :D

Jo, I don't usually associate a section with what I was watching. I think I make that kind of connection when I stitch hehehe.

I listen to radio =D I got the most wonderful internet radio from my twin sister couple of years ago and it is just awsome to listen radio stations all over the world.

I have to stitch or knit in front of TV or I think that I should be doing some kind of house work. (Yes, I'm a bit sick that way). I have certain projects that I do if I must watch a large portion of the show, and I save the more complicated projects for the shows that I just need to listen or I've seen before. I really wish that stitching and knitting were considered true exercise......

Becca, if you read this, please come back to the BB so that we can all catch up with you.

Haha great topic! I always watch TV or a movie while I stitch, and one of two things ALWAYS happens. I either stitch so slow that I probably shouldn't have bothered getting it out in the first place OR I completely tune out the TV and have no clue what happened on what I watched LOL!
