Mermaids of the Deep Blue - Finished!!

I was a busy stitching bee this weekend. Aside from need-to-dos like laundry and food, my bum was parked on my stitching chair and by early Saturday night, all the stitching on Mermaids of the Deep Blue was done. Woo-hoo!!

I decided to take a break before beading, so I putzed around for a bit then grabbed a shower. Feeling nicely refreshed, I settled down at around 11pm to bead... and bead... and bead!! Oh my goodness, there were a LOT of beads. Before I knew it, 3 am rolled around and bedtime was declared. Bedtime??? When I'm so close to finishing a project??!! But, sanity (or whatever's left of it at 3 in the morning) prevailed, and off to bed we went.

My right hand index finger and thumb are sore today. Why, you ask? Hmm, I'm not sure... could it be the 8 or so hours I spent beading yesterday?! *giggle* But darn if the finished piece is not well worth the pain. ;)

An observation and something to keep in mind if this is on your list of things to stitch: there are a lot of solidly packed beading in this piece and things got a little crowded in some areas on 32ct hand-dye linen. Would I do it again on 32ct? YES! But that's cos I love working with this count, and I would put up with a lot for it. :)

Enough prattling on my end... I know many of you have scrolled down to look at the pictures first. I would have.... LOL!!!! By the way, I didn't upload all the close-up shots here. For more, click for their PICASA album.

Wowza! You finished this design in less then two months? Lady you are my stitching hero! You have some seriously fast needles.

I absolutely love this design. I have a Mirabilia mermaid waiting to be stitched, but I refuse to buy the material until my J Fairy is finished first. My pocketbook won't have it!

The bead-work is wonderful and you did such a great job - way to stick to is for 8 hrs over the weekend! Isn't it just wonderful to get in the zone and forget all about time and the surroundings and just stitch, stitch, stitch? Anyway, you definitely get the "Bead Champ Award" from me! LOL

They are STUNNING and the fabric choice inspired! The beading was well worth the sore fingers, you are a machine! I think I will need to spend some time with this project in the near future.

katica said...

its absolutely stunning! I'm not normally a fan of the mermaids, at least I don't like them well enough to stitch them myself, but yours are breathtaking and have me sorely tempted! I love the fabric you chose and the beads just make it pop!

Andie said...

Wahoo!! Congratulations :) They look fantastic and don't they just pop right off that fabric!!

Veronica said...

My oh my oh my! How did you do it? Finish such a huge and stunning piece like that within two months? Astounding! And it's gorgeous. All those beads. No wonder your fingers were sore. So you would recommend a 32 count for this design? I know it's gonna be tight but all the beads fitted nicely in right?

Hugs,
Veronica.

Hi Joyce! I would love to start my first Mirabilia and is so inspired by the fabric you used. May I know what specific linen fabric, Picture This perfect shade? Was this stitched 2 over 2? Thanks you so much.
