Random Afternoon Question

Today's question is very simple and with-the-times...

How much do you hate Blogger's new captcha codes?

I have to say, it was worse when they did the one word on a black background, one word on white background thing. I noticed while reading through IHSW blogs today that the background is all white now. But still, what a PAIN they are to decipher. I swear, after a few attempts, it's enough to stop me from commenting on a blog. But I've persevered...

On the brighter side, I've noticed that a lot of blogs have disabled this option. THANK YOU!!! You make my blog reading so much more enjoyable and pleasant when I don't have to cuss as Blogger. ;)

The worry, of course, is what if spam gets through. The spam catcher on Google has been brilliant at stopping spam on this blog, so I'm a happy puppy. :D

I haete it with a vengance! I disabled it because I can't see it on anyone else's...maybe it's time for new glasses? I decided I would rather risk spam than have no one commenting!

It is better today; the previous couple of days were ridiculous. Sometimes it took me three tries to get it right.

That is the reason why I disabled the word verification, but I got a lot of spam last two days. Fortunately Blogger catches it; there are very weird things amongst it.
I wonder if others also get a lot of spam too now.

I will answer your question by saying: My hatred for captcha goes to 11.

I've had word verification turned off for a long time (I should make myself a badge: "Word verification free since 2010!" LOL) I get 1-2 spam messages a week, maybe? Sometimes it ramps up to, like, SEVEN in a week!!! =) Not a single one has ever made it through to the blog, though!

BTW, if anyone's reading comments and needs instructions on how to turn the thing OFF (it's not so obvious), head over to my blog.

Thanks for switching it off, it was really aggravating! Your Chinese Garden is so awesome.

Well, ummm.... I can see I'm definitely in the minority here, but I don't find it that bothersome. Either I've been very lucky to only get reasonably decipherable combinations of letters or my profession (high school English teacher) has improved my deciphering skill (many students have a handwriting that's far from perfectly clear, and I have to read their essays and exam papers). The rare times I haven't gotten both words right on the first try, I have always gotten them right on the second try. And I haven't had to spend a long time deciphering them either.

I guess I ought to make a poll in my blog asking my readers if the new word verification is too difficult to pass, and if a lot of them say 'yes' then do as some other bloggers have done and disable it in my blog. It doesn't bother me, but it obviously does bother a lot of people and I don't want to lose all of my commenters because of it!

I turned off that option long ago and don't allow Anonymous comments. I noticed that Spambots comment as Anonymous. They still manage to comment and I get the notifications but I notice that blogger captures it as spam and doesn't allow it to post. Truthfully I don't understand why any person chooses to post as Anonymous in the first place.

Since doing that, I've never had any problems on my blog. But seriously, having to deal with it on other blogs is really annoying. I've had to go as far as 4 attempts to get my words to go through.

On a scale of 1 - 10 it's definitely a 13!
I haven't had a problem getting the words right but I have to pay close attention and it's time-consuming and pointless.
Someone did suggest using the spoken verifier instead but we have the computer on silent because it's outside small boy's bedroom and it's nearly midnight here now. I don't want random words booming out and waking him up!
See you next week for Random Question unless you have gone to Nigeria with a Russian lady to buy Viagra!

I HATE it, it's gotten harder and harder to decipher! It took me a while, butI figured out how to turn it off on my blog.

Don't like it--disabled a while ago! We need to organize against it if spams get through too much!Hugs!

Andie said...

Oh yea!! I hate it and turned it off on mine too! No spam... that I'm aware of yet :D

I turned it off long time ago and I've never gotten spam yet but yes the new one is so hard to read. I always curse when I see that verifier is there I can never seem to get it right!

Too serious for numbers, based on this scale:

I took 'em off my blog (I think) because they're annoying. But for a really good blog or post I want to comment on, I'd struggle past, lol!

Kruissteekies said...

I took'em af when I starting blogging, and received just one spam,

I usually get the words right on the first attempt but even then, I find it annoying because it takes that much more effort in deciphering them.

However, when I get the words wrong, it usually takes me a few tries to finally get it right and that is frustrating!

I've gotten some spam since disabling it on my blog but like you, Goggle has managed to filter them out :)

Hugs,
Veronica.

I hate it so I've disabled mine a long, long time ago. And I do not get a lot of spam.

Mireille said...

I find it very difficult. I also have to enter more codes because I can't see them.
I think mine is switched off.

I hate it, simple. Thank you to everyone who has turned it off.

It is so annoying, and I have also removed mine..but it has really annoyed me, so much so that I think it is time you posted some hotties!! lol :P

With my eyesight... it's been really nasty... that's why not much commenting done lately. Hopefully it's changed!!!

I hate the new word verification with a passion - it drives me crazy. I think/hope that it is turned off on my blog.

I hate them too, Joysze. They're horrible. I can't figure them out, and I'm actually leaning forward and squinting, like that's gonna help, lol. it's just crazy!!! I'm so happy that some bloggers have disabled them. It's just an I hate blogger day, lol.

Southpaw Stitcher said...

Yup, I think it's really annoying as well. Turned my word verification off 2-3 days ago and so far no spam. Want to make it easy for folks to comment, not harder!

Minnie said...

They are very annoying glad everyone is turning them off, I like to comment, but not with those things.

Jenny said...

I really don't have a problem with it, but I just thought a few minutes ago, while posting another comment, that they surely have to be a pain for a lot of readers out there. I would hate to have deslyxia and try to figure these out!
I am more annoyed about the ones where you type in the word and you think that you are done, but you get taken to another site/location and have to click OK there in order to "truly" submit your comment... I don't know how many times I forgot the last step and my comment never made it... LOL
Off to see if I can disable my security code!

Shelleen said...

I hate it and if I hate it then I am sure my readers do so I am thinking of turning it off.

Jan said...

It's a relief to know it's not only me who can't decipher some letters! I hate it too. I am totally loving your Chinese garden though and am enjoying seeing it unfold.

Anne said...

It's funny because I know I've complained about it but, I kinda got really good at deciphering them after awhile, and after reading Heli's comment about reading student's handwriting, etc., and I realized that I have to decipher cryptic grade 1-3 writing which is often difficult and many times I just ask the kid "What is this that you are trying to say" and to which they will respond with a completely incomprehensible "made up on the spot" story that has no relation to what could possibly have been written on their paper.

Long winded??!!! But yeah, I hate it because it requires me to do extra typing!!

HMBWW!!

Susan said...

I don't like them at all! They have gotten easier to read or maybe I've just gotten better at it, but still I don't like the squinting and eye scrunching I have to do to figure them out. Most times it's a WAG! I'm glad people said something though as it made me go back and check my settings and lo and behold, I had that featured enabled - turned that off right quick!

Sally said...

It is horrible! I find it hard to decipher the letters a lot of the time. I had it disabled on my blog anyway as I have comments emailed me to me so I can check them first.

I hate the word verification too, so annoying!
