I can't believe that we'll be saying goodbye to another year.
I remember when Y2K threatened the collapse of the technological world as we know it and news of virus and computer shut-downs ran rampant. Now here we are, at the brink of 2007, and the year 2010 being so close in the horizon that we can almost taste it.
On a smaller, more personal scale, 2006 has been a good year for me.
Old friendships were rediscovered and new ones made. I lost my grandma, but I know she's in God's loving embrace. My whole family was in a horrible accident, but by the grace of God, they are fine. My nephew, Ryan, turned 2 at the end of September and I haven't seen him face to face. Living on the opposite side of the world really sucks.
I started working full-time in addition to teaching and finally after years of struggle and schooling, Satish and I are finally making enough money to live comfortably whilst having enough to start putting away for a rainy day. We're on the D.I.N.K. (d…
Since the in-laws are here for the annual visit, we made plans to go to Disneyworld for the day, the main event being to see La Nouba.
We decided to hit Epcot during the day and had high expectations from our last visit there 10 years ago, and I'm very sad to report that, for us, Disney has lost its magic. The popular rides had a 2 hour long wait, the other rides felt really dated, and the worlds turned out to be a glorified shopping trip that catered to the tourists' mentality to compulsive buy.
Perhaps we're more jaded now and, at 10 years older, have lost the patience to deal with the long lines and massive amount of people to the ring-ding of $65++ per ticket.
La Nouba, on the other hand, was spectacular, much better than when we saw it 2 years ago. We had great seats, about 8 rows from the staget, and we could see all of the performers' expressions, which adds SO much to the show.
All in all, it was a decent day, dinner at Wolfgang Puck's being another highlight.…
I've been neglecting my stitching lately. Not quite sure what it is that's been holding me back from sitting down and working on them.
Been reading. The paperback version of Laurell K. Hamilton's A Stroke of Midnight was finally released.. finished that in a day. Now I'm waiting for the library's call to go pick up Mistral's Kiss. I've also put holds on Christine Feehan's Dark Celebration and J.D. Robb's Born in Death.
Been messing around on the blogs again, the fortunate, or unfortunate, recipient being the ET's blog. A and I like strong colors and I thought the old white and gray theme was a little cold. So, with Dark Lilac and our love of red in mind, I revamped the page, and threw in some yellow gold for prosperity.
I've made up for the crafting end of things by making jewelry over the last few days, mostly for my mother-in-law, but I'm missing stitching. Goodness knows I think and talk about it enough. What isn't making sense to m…
I've really enjoyed having 2 days off in a row... and if I'm not careful, I'm going to get used to this and not work on Saturdays, which would make quite a few people very happy. ;)
I spent a good 2-3 hours today revamping my craft storage area. Ai Lin and my beads are now color coded from light to dark, which is going to make it much easier to look for what we need... well, it will be for me anyways, hehe. I went to Michael's yesterday with my mil and spent about $100 on jewelry making stuff, and the bulk of them were on sale!!!
Today, I made these:
I'm quite please with how the earrings turned out, and I think with the right top, the lariat would look really cute too.... although, Satish took one look at it and said that it was too chunky for me. Hmm... he could have a point there. We shall see. ^.~
There are more pictures I have to post, mainly of the jewelry we made for my mil.... soon.
My allergies are KILLING me!! I don't know what happened... it was a decently allergy free day except for the occasional sniffle, and then suddenly during dinner, WHAMMO!!! It's going bonkers and it's out on a mission to commit murder, and the victim is ME!!!
EeKoon sent me this pretty, pretty scissor fob, and I just love it to death!!! Tammy had sent me a fob earlier that on my Gingher embroidery scissors, so I've put EK's onto my key chain, and I have to say, it goes perfectly with my Coach key fob. I'm such a lucky girl. ^.^
I racked up 2 more for the year, and it's a good thing too since they're both Christmas gifts. Actually come to think of it, that's why they got finished. This whole deadline thing really does work wonders for finishes.
Finally got Tiger Reflection done after months of procrastination. Way long overdue, since it was supposed to be Alex's housewarming gift, then his birthday gift, and now finally it's made it through for Christmas. Hey, you know what they say, better late than never. Hehehe. It's framed, wrapped, and ready to be sent out tomorrow. I have to admit, it was tough giving it away, cos it turned out so much better than I expected, and the black fabbie was such a pain in the ass to stitch on in the beginning. But it's ok, since it's going to a good home.
This was a Passione Ricamo chart and I doubled the bottom, minus the heart, to act as a border for Marina and Steve's initials. Stitched 2 over 1 on 18ct cream aida, using rummed raisin and…
Since Ai Lin got me into beading and jewelry making, I thought I'd make earrings for Andi, Sandy, Rachel, and Nancy. Ai Lin was over last Thursday and here are the earrings we made:
for Andi for Rachel
These were made last night all by my lonesome:
I really, really love the pair I made for Nancy, and was soooooo close to keeping them for myself. Now that I'm looking at the picture, I wonder why I didn't. All I can say is, she'd better treat those babies well!!! Hehehe.
A and I have put into motion our 2007 stitch-a-long plans, NO WAY set in stone, and will probably be subjected to many, many changes as the days go by.
#1. Dimensions' "Regal Tiger". We are only allowed to start this AFTER we've finished 2 pages of our girls, Meta and Motherhood. EK has been trying to talk me into a Jan. 1 start with the Coven, and I think if A and I are really good, we'd be able to get things done. I have 2 Christmas gifts to finish, hopefully by the end of the week, and then it's Meta all the way. Well, for 2 pages at least. Mwa-hahahaha.
2. Per Segno Per Filo'sVis-a-vis and Nappe. A will be stitching Nappe for me, colors etc a surprise, and I will be stitching Vis for her, same goes for the color. These were supposed to be our gifts to each other this Christmas. But since we're still young and in our prime, we thought we'd live a little and make them NEXT year's Christmas gifts instead. HAHAHA. We're planning on stitch…
It started out with Peggy and I discussing New Year's Eve plans. This led to my mentioning that I'd like to have a get together on Jan. 6th of the new year, with an invite to her, of course. She tells me that she might not be able to make it cos a dear friend of hers is throwing a birthday party for his friend and she's been invited. He's some art dealer and a millionaire... whooooo wheeeeeee! Then she tells me with that his whole body is covered up with tattoos.
Now, before I proceed, please keep in mind that I'm very tired, and my allergies have been killing me, and I'm in one of my looney moods.
P: His WHOLE body is covered up in tattoos!!! (her face as she says this is priceless!!!)
J: Like... EVERYTHING?!? (*jaw drops*)
P: *laughs* Yeah, his WHOLE BODY.
J: So like.... I wonder if his.... peepee is tattooed too....
P: Well, I don't know....
J: Huh... I wonder if they'd had to tattoo it while it was erect or.....
My darling cousin has been stuck, bored, in some training for work for the last 3 days, and the poor girl keeps checking my blog for something to read and has come up empty for 2 days now. So hopefully this is something entertaining for one and all.
*drawing a blank here*
*stares at the screen willing for something inspiring to say*
HAH!!! Who am I kidding? Whenever will I have anything inspiring to say. Although, random thoughts have been blurted out before much to my embarassment, like the one time a friend was asking who James Taylor was and I belted out "I feel good, nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh."
Tonight, we're going to go see this acrobatic dance troupe called Pilobulus. They look really interesting, but it's going to be a long drive from work all the way to W. Palm Beach, and seeing as how this is taking place on a Wednesday night, it's cutting into Ai Lin's and my beading time.
On the beading end, I think it's pretty safe to say that it's not going …
Well, Kim and Nikki's whips are sure long reaching!!! I've been good and have been stitching... although, not so much the tiger but on another project that I was duh enough to think that I could get done for a friend's gift for Christmas. Siiiigh, when will I ever learn? Hehehehe.
The tiger is going decently well.... I have maybe another 2 days of work to do on it and it'll be ready for framing. So I'm anticipating a finish at the end of the week at the latest.
This other project I've started is a simple one. I'm stitching the border of a freebie from Passione Ricamo in ini purple hand-dyed floss and then stitching my friend and her brand new hubbies initials in a variegated purple/green hand-dyed. Finished the border a couple of nights ago, and the initials should take me just another few hours and that's a done deal.
There is a change of plans in the jewelry pressies I'm making.... sigh.
Finished making this set last night for my MIL but I'm not quite sure if it's her style. So hmmm #1.
Then I brought it in to show Peggy, and she was oohing and aahing over it and put it on and then said that gold is SO not her color. Hmmm #2, cos well, the set I made her for Christmas is umm... gold! (look for the picture a few posts down) Although, in mulling it over, the bracelet is really more my MIL's style... so this is what I'm thinking....
Keep the bracelet from Peggy's set and either a. break apart the necklace to make earrings or b. keep the necklace and get more czech glass to make earrings to go with it.
Now for Peggy, if I go there, I'll have to make her a new set or something with silver. (sorry, thinking out loud here)
Been thinking about making just earrings as Christmas gifts for my friends here at work... just a small token, cos it doesn't take up hardly any time and ar…
Wanda sent me this beautiful needle keeper the other day. I love it to death, especially the green she chosed!! <3 What's super cool is that when I turn it upside down, the monogram looks like an L.... so both my initials are sewn on this pretty thing! How awesome is that? 'nyways, a picture says a thousand words, so they say, here are a few thousands for all to enjoy. ^.^
What did I find in my mailbox yesterday but Caron Vinson's Gothic Fairy Attitude from sweet, sweet Sonya. THANK YOU, SONYA!!!! ^.^
I've always loved this, and A and I have this thing going that we'll have to stitch a couple of Vinsons, the other being Glam Gothic Fairy on the occasion of what's still her secret to tell.
*zips mouth and throws away the key*
If I had my way, although it had absolutely NOTHING to do with me, we'd be stitching these Vinsons in celebration. It remains to be seen, though I've made noises about cutting these charts down to smaller sizes to include the heads and shoulders only.
It's official. I finished my sis-in-law's gift today. Had to shorten length of the danglies on the earrings cos my brother said that she didn't wear earrings that dangle down too long.
Ai Lin came over today, and we were working on a Christmas stocking for my grandmother. She's done most of the work, but wanted me to daisy stitch "grandma" on it and do some other embroidery stuff on it. It's about half done, so it should be ok to send it out to grandma in time for Christmas.
Started on a bracelet for my mother-in-law, but I think I have to play around with this particular one. It's a cluster bracelet, and I was a little sparse on the clusters to start off with, cos I didn't want for it to look too gaudy, but now it's looking kinda empty. :S
Sean and I got our secret project all ready to be sent out tomorrow. YIPPEEE!!!! Hope the recipients will enjoy them. ^.^
