Regal Tiger - 2nd Pic

Admit it!! You thought that I had given up the ghost and threw away all my stitching. Don't worry.... you weren't alone. I didn't have high hopes for me there for a little while. ;)

Then, what came along but the blessed long Christmas weekend... and the very much delayed painting of the inside of my Ottlite (that's a story for another post), and TA-DAH!!!

Now let's just hope I can keep it up and finish him, and event I planned for year's end and then I realized it's 2 days away. HAHAHAHAH. Did I mention dementia? Sometimes.... I worry about me. ROFL!

Space.... the Final Frontier

Moon Cake Festival

Today is Moon Cake Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival. I don't know much about the stories behind it other than it has something to do with the full moon and some guy and his wife... ROFLMAO!!! Although, come to think of it, there is another story of how moon cakes were used to carry secret messages during a time of turmoil in China. For more detail about this, please visit the ever helpful Wiki. I'm such a wealth of information, aren't I? ;)

What I remember most about it growing up is eating moon cake, yummmmm, and walking around with lit up lanterns with the other kids in the neighborhood. To this day, I remember festive lanterns being displayed and sold way before the festival, and inevitably every year, I'd pick a cellophane fish lantern... really, how could anyone resist a face like that? LOL!

Since Moon Cake Festival fell on a weekend this year, we got together for dinner at Ailin and Ian's, and decided to make wonton soup and 'kon low mein' with shredded …

Regal Tiger - 1st Pic

Here we are again, in the land of WIPs. Let's see how long I can keep this up. ;)I started prep work on Tiger last night, and it's easy to forget that it's quite a lengthy procedure...- iron the fabric, scroll it up; - sort the floss; - get the Ottlite, adjust it just so; - settle down to stitch.... ooops, forgot the scissors and the highlighter *siiiiiigh*; - moves scroll out of the way, gets scissors... looks for highligher.... hmm... what color should I use? It IS a major decision after all *snort*; - decision made, GREEN it is; - sits back down, hmm.... I think I want a drink of water first.
WHAT??? It's been a whole hour??? Where did the time go?!! LOL! It's a wonder I even got started.

New Start! New Start!!

It's official!! EK and I are finally insane!!! All the crazy hours of work has finally caught up to us, took our marbles and tossed them out to sea!

But far be it for me to complain since in those few seconds of insanity, we found our joy for stitching again!!! We've both been in such a horrible rut of late, and while we both felt bad about it, nothing seem to work in getting us going.

Today, oh glorious day, we have decided on new starts, a double SAL of sorts.... Tiger and Dimensions:

A Poem

There have been quite a bit of hoo-ha going on over the last month in the stitching world. A charting company, Heaven and Earth Designs* have been letting numerous stitches down for quite a while now with their charting and business practices. The way they have treated loyal customs are reminiscent of dictatorship. Lots of things to blog about and voice my thoughts over and these will all be forthcoming pretty soon....
Throughout history, poems always have a way of conveying feelings and thoughts in lots of ways, be it subtle or in-your-face.
Today, I thought short, sweet, and direct would be perfect:
Hate HAED?* Think it's trash? Then, do not wait... Visit STAB and STASH!!

For Ailin

Here ya go. Waaaaay before 2009. ;)

Dinner and Fun

What's this? A blog? More of a photo log really, of our first dinner at our new home served on our new dining table, with Ailin and Ian as our first official guest. ^.^ We had a wonderful South African wine that they brought back from their honeymoon along with an indian dinner I cooked up. Ailin brought chinese peanut dessert and made a delish date cake. YUMMMMMM!!!!

Tatty Teddy Wedding Day

Procrastination is never a good thing.... in this instance, it led to 4 days of stitching, 2 of those being a test of endurance in $&*^#$(*%$ backstitching! Did I mention I hate backstitching? LOL! The result, I must say, is damn cute, and I have never made such perfect french knots. ;)

Stitched for my cousin and Ian for their wedding, I used a DMC conversion of Anchor threads and replaced the french knots in the girl bear's veil with beads to add a bit of glitter.

I so totally love this and am tempted to stitch something for us, buuuuuut... I think I've had enough backstitching for now. ;)

Spanish Rouge

Spanish Rouge by Sampler Cove Stitched 1 over 2 on 32ct Belfast linen
Floss: Vikki Clayton Silks Nose Gay 2111, DMC 209 and 3837

I've been having the hardest time gaining momentum on this piece. Can't really put my finger on what the problem is... maybe it's the color, maybe the subject matter bores me too quickly. It's shocking as this boredom is something very new to me. EGADS! To make things worse, there were times while I was working on it that I seriously considered not finishing it!!!! Horror of horrors!!! :O

Alas, the 'finisher' part of me rebelled at that idea everytime, so I will see this through by hook or by crook. I'm sure the "fun butts" at the Crafty Coven will have a field day with this. LOL!

With that said, I've rolled it up for now and started back on stitching Metamorphosis. Figured that I'll get back to this when I need a break from all the intensive color changes and the over 1 stitches....... maaaayyyyyybeeeeeeeee. ;)

The Smallest Differences

Isn't it amazing what little tiny things can sometimes make a world of difference?

One little angled 'tail' between chromosomes has the power to determine the wall color for a newborn baby's room...

One blink of the eyes, and one might miss the shooting star that one has waited hours to see...

Mere inches, like the NFL love to advertise, is the difference between victory and defeat...

And since this blog is allllllll about me, I have to share how one iiiiiiiitttttyyyyyy, biiiitttttttttty number in floss color marks the difference between flawless skin and cooties on Luna.

A long while back, I mislabeled 2 pinks, somehow switched the color labels between 224 and 225. What resulted was Luna in March, all aglow with cooties (see all those bright pink spots all over her flesh?):

And Luna now, just plain aglow! :D

Inner Peace

Courtesy of Mellie. It was sooo helpful to me, I just HAD to share...
I am passing this on to you because it definitely worked for me and we all could use more calm in our lives.

By following the simple advice I heard on a Medical TV show, I have finally found inner peace. A Doctor proclaimed the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started.

So I looked around my house to see things I'd started and hadn't finished and, before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of shhhardonay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of vocka, a pockage of Prunglies , tha mainder of bot Prozic and Valum scriptins, the res of the Chesescke an a box a chocolets.

Bad Movies and Silver Linings

I've always been a firm believer on "There is Always a Silver Lining in Every Cloud".....

We watched 2 movies last night. Well, in this case, the word 'watched' is use in the loosest way possible and envelopes a huge scope of scoffing, ridiculing, snide remarks, total and utter disbelief, peppered with quite a few "WTF!!"s.... you get my drift. ;)

First up at 11pm was Alien vs. Predator 2. What a total waste of resources and money!!!! The first AvP was Oscar worthy compared to this one and like DH said, FOX ought to be shot for putting this kinda crap out there!! I'm guessing that mustard was the condiment of choice on set, as there was a lot of gore for no reason. Guess they had to use an influx of ketchup for something.

Of course, why stop at bad, if you can do worse? Dungeon Siege: In the Name of the King.... I have no words to describe how bad it was. Where would I even start? Should I talk about the utter lack of editing, or the horrible acting? H…

Spanish Rouge Update

Finally sat down and spent a chunk of time to work on this and the first band is done!!!

I ended up using 3 shades of purple instead of the original 2, and it's looking pretty good, if I may say so myself. ;)

I was sooooo tempted to cut this band off and just make a bookmark out of it, but EK and Novia convinced me that the finished product will be too pretty to pass up. So, for now, it will stay on the scroll. LOL!

Online Pregnancy Test

Are you... or aren't you??!! Take the TEST!!

I apparently had a wicked, wild night... one of those you wake up from and remember nothing about and....

Joyce, you're going to be the proud parent of a baby boy, and just look- isn't he just so damn cute! Based on our remote test results, your beautiful baby boy will weigh about 11 lbs, 11 oz and have black hair and brown eyes. Truly a Wonder To Behold!

You little whiskey-sippin' momma, you succumbed to the slick, double-dealin' charm of Boss Hogg. Your child will probably grow up to be a Lord (slum of war).

Who the heck is Boss Hogg?!!! That's what I'd like to know!

Spanish Rouge

I've picked up 'Inquisition' again. I can't quite decide if I'm into it or not... it's a pretty fast stitch, which is great on one hand, but then it gets boring so quickly because it's so repetitive.

Since the last update, I've frogged out both versions of the 2nd color, whilst yakking to EK. This is definitely something I'd recommend doing if you have to frog... the yakking to a friend, that is. It makes time flies and before you know it, all the wrongs are right again. ^.^

I couldn't quite make myself spend the money to get a new batch of silks, so decided to go the route of using trusty DMC, and you know what.... I can't tell the difference at all between the look of silk and cotton in this piece. What I did do is add a 3rd color. This was totally unplanned, however, I'm quite please with how the lighter purple is being showcased and have decided to add this color as the 'highlight' color for each section.

A New Look

Don't be alarmed... it's still me. ;) I've decided to go with a new look. So after a bit of time on Photoshop and with a photograph that Satish took as inspiration, I give you, the new Random Ramblings.

Still some coding to do to get it back to where it was, font style and colors still need some work, but that will be for another day.

I have to go to bed now.....

Tickle Me Elmo

There is a factory in Northern Minnesota which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.

Well, Lena is hired at the Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00AM.

The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager's door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new Employee.

He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.

The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor. When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo's all over the factory floor and they're really beginning to pile up.

At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me El…

Caressed by Ice

So I've been reading again.... Caressed by Ice, the last book in my unread pile, and I must say, this 3rd book of Nalini Singh's Psy-Changelings series is the best one yet.

I've never been one to post book reviews and I don't think I'd start now. ;) But Nalini Singh has really created a nice 'universe' with this series. The books are well-written, her command of the written language is impeccable, and she has an ability to draw you in and hold your attention captive. Well, at least she's done that to me, and I'm a finicky reader.

Give her a try if you're looking for something new to read... it's paranormal romance at it's finest with just the right balance of story, brains, and let's not kid ourselves here, sex. ;)

Here she is... one page (and some) done, 35 pages to go. LOL! Isn't she coming along beautifully? ^.^
by Ian Daniels
Charted by Stab and Stash

I'll be taking a break from her for a while and concentrate on Spanish Rouge and Metamorphosis for the next little while. I can't seem to get rotation to agree with me.

Spanish Rouge by Sampler Cove

I really don't think I'm meant to work on samplers. I'm sure this will be much to EK's dismay, but I swear I have the worse luck with them. I'm not saying this lightly and without proof either...

Exhibit A: Remember A Bouquet for Cheryl? Well, I got that done pretty quick, without too much mishap, unless you count that I didn't have enough thread for the whole design and opted to cut out the corners. Oh, and did I mention that I can't find where I stored it?? I've looked high and low for it but nada!

Exhibit B: Ahh..... who could forget the fiasco of Cirque des Cercles where I received a different dye lot of Caron Waterlilies Cocoa and it was like Michael Jackson pre and post plastic surgery??? Fortunately for good friends, Karen sent me a skein from a dye lot that was pretty close, and it's finished and accounted for.

Which leads me to the subject at hand. I started Spanish Rouge last weekend for the Sampler SAL we planned on the Crafty Coven. Instead…

As promised, here is a peek at my current WIP. This was totally unplanned, but then Tammy, of Stab and Stash fame, signed Ian Daniels to chart his artwork!!! *SQUEAL!!!* And what's more, one of the first 6 she charted is Luna. Now, really, how is a girl supposed to resist something as beautiful as this, especially since I've always loved this.

I actually already owned this piece as charted by HAED, but was very wary of starting it because a lot of their pieces that have been stitched have turned out quite badly, including the Sylph QS I worked on. Now, seeing as how these are BAPs (big-ass projects) and a lot of time will be devoted into stitching one of these, it is of utmost importance that I get very selective in what I stitch.

So poor beautiful Luna has been sitting in my stash pile till now.... thanks to Stab and Stash, I present..... Luna, stitched on 25ct evenweave. (Hmm.... click on it for the bigger picture. It uploaded funny on here for some reason.)

A New Blog

Yes, like having 3 other blogs isn't enough and neglecting them wasn't criminal, I have gone and started up a new one with Mellie... Fantastic Finishes. :D

We wanted to do this to celebrate our love for cross stitch and have an avenue to display all the love that we've put into each project. Whether or not this avenue becomes a boulevard is up to you, dear reader.

It's still in the construction stages... I found this gorgeous template but it was in 3 columns, so some Photoshopping and recoding later.... ta-dah! 2 columns and a gallery-esque look. I still need to mess with the sizing and look of Mellie's pics. "Do whatever you want," she says!! Wonder if that includes putting a for sale price on them. Mwa-hahahahaha!!

We still have some finishes to upload, including Mellie's knitting and paintings, then we'll start updating with current WIPs. :D

And yes, that's what I've been doing on Friday and Saturday instead of stitching. ROFLMAO! Oh, the…

Let's Play Tag

Alrighty then. Might as well jump in feet first and make a big splash back into the land of blogging.
Noreen tagged me, and here are the rules:

1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post THE RULES on your blog.
3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog.
4. Tag 7 people and link to them.
5. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.

Okie, here we go. 7 weird or random facts about me.... sheesh, do I really want the lot of you to know me this well? ;)

1. I can't swim or ride a bicycle. Wait... does that count as 2..... hmmm, I'm thinking it does.
2. I can't ride a bicycle.
3. I'm a huge RPG'er.
4. If I were guarantee millions, I'd consider marrying and old guy with liver spots if he died in a week and there is no contention for my millions. (ROFLMAO)
5. I can't sit still.... I always have to be doing something or thinking about something. The moment of me laying around doing nothing heralds the beginning o…

The More Things Change...

Same story, different instance....

I have been remiss in updating my blog of late. It seems that no matter how much I try, the grains of time runs out and leaves me running to the tune of playing catch-up.

Although, I have been good about spending more time on the Crafty Coven, and it always lifts my spirits to be able to commune with such a great bunch of people. What's most important is that it's spurring me into stitching mode again, thus the CDC finish of late.

An exciting new start took place a little over 10 days ago, but I think that she deserves a post of her very own because of how absolutely amazing she's turning out due in a huge part to the charting talents of Tammy at Stab and Stash.

All in all 2008 is raring to be a good stitching year.... if the voices of beading, gaming, and books don't scream too loud in their attempts to lure me away.

Cirque des Cercles finished

Here is it... finally done. My first finish of the year. Hopefully this will be only the first of many, goodness knows we have enough SALs planned into our ripe old ages. ;)

The look we were going for is one reminiscent of burnt velvet where the design is very subtle and the fabric is a showcase as well as the design.

The Particulars:
by Ink Circles
Fabric: 36ct opalescent linen specially hand-dyed
by the fabulous Tammy of Stab and Stash.
Floss: Caron Waterlilies Cocoa

Year of the Rat

Wishing you a happy and prosperous new year!

CDC Update

Thank God for good friends and fellow stitchers. After the whole wrong-color-thread fiasco, my darlings on the Coven searched high and low for me for a dyelot that would match my original and on a leap of faith, Karen bought me a skein. It was from a different dyelot but it matches!! YIPPPEEEEEE!!

This is 3 pages down and if I'm really good, I'll have this done by the end for February. Just in time for a new Sampler SAL start. :D :D

HAPPY 2008!!!

12 days late, but the wish is still the same:

Wishing y'all
a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2008!

I've been trying to be good on the stitching end. Ever since the decision was made for a Sampler SAL (stitch-a-long) to start in March, and to pair that with my total dislike of leaving things unfinished, I have been working quite a bit on CDC. As of Thursday, I had 2 pages done, yippeeeee!!! GO, ME, GO!!

Surely things are coming up roses, right? The stitching mojo is back, zippe-dee-doo-dah, zippe-de-yay! That's 2 pages down, 4 to go and if I keep up the discipline, I'll have this done by the end of February at the latest, and in time to start Spanish Rouge, or Inquisition as it has been lovingly dubbed, in March.

When I first bought the floss, Caron Waterlilies Cocoa, they only had 2 skeins left at my LNS, but we liked the color too much and I thought surely when I needed more, it wouldn't be that tough to get it again.

Fast forward a few months... the 2 pages that I had finished took up 1 skein and with one skein to go, I placed an order with an online store for 2 more…
