Random Afternoon Question

Jumping off of last week's question about needles, let's talk about threads this week. :) After all, don't they go hand on hand? Like love and marriage & horse and carriage? Thus reminds me of the sitcom Married With Children... but I digress.

Are you specific about the thread you like to use?

I'm not particular at all. Whatever comes in the kit or I happen to have in hand works just fine. I do like stitching with silks, they're soooo soft and I sometimes find myself fondling them more than I should. LOL! I love my DMCs though, there is such a variety of colors for very little money.

Joyce,
I use DMC more as it is what I have lots of. I do love using the silks my favorite is Dinky Dyes.

Yes, DMC is the most favourite thread that i use, but i also have some Anchor threads and Mezz, they are good as well.
And in the packages is it always a surprise what quality they give.
The threads from Dimensions for example...they are terrible!!!

DMC is the only kind I've ever tried. I need to be more adventurous but I don't now where to even start!

I use DMC frequently, but my favorite silks are from Hand-dyedfibers.com Vikki is wonderful to work with! She has a full conversion from DMC to her fibers and they now come on micro spools that are 8.7 yds just like DMC. She also has Gloriana's converted to her silks with great results. There's a message board there too that is made up of some great people!

Have't really met a thread I didn't like! A lot more expensive in the UK compared with the US, sadly :(

I love DMC and Au ver a Soie! I also love The Gentle Arts and Weeks Dye Works over-dyed cotton floss - the shade shifts are generally subtle enough not to look "too much" when stitched with.
I bought up a bunch of yummy looking silks by the Thread Gatherer early on in my stitching career, but realized pretty quickly that over-dyed floss that looks great in a skein doesn't necessarily look great stithed on linen....
I have not been too impressed with Vikki's silk conversions and actually sent an entire pack back once due to a very "dull" conversion (for the Sailor's Huswife), even though I like stitching with her silks; they are smooth, shiny, yet sturdy with a nice tight twist.
I also really like to stitch with Fremme's Danish Flowerthread, but it is pretty pricey and hard to come by.
Great question, Joyce!

I usually use whatever threads are called for in a project. I stitch mostly projects that use dmc, which great because the colors are great and I love the sheen they have. I love stitching with crescent colours also! I'm okay with weeks dye works threads but they always seem to break a lot when I use them. I know what you mean about the silks! I'm using them for the first time and they are so soft and luscious!

I'm another DMC lover, although I'm about to inherit a Bothy kit and I'm looking forward to trying out the maderia threads because they're meant to be lovely

I usually use DMC and love those but have used Crescent Colours and Weeks.

I use mostly dmc, but that's because most patterns call for it. But I also like Anchor and Ariadna. Ariadna is the cheapest thread brand that is sold here, which still has a pretty good qualityq but less colours...

I love silks, from stranded to twisted.. I love them all. What I love the most is stitching them on frame, using tekobari to lay them flat and ooh aahhh when the shine blind my eyes. I tried silk from the Silk Mill and I just LOVEEEEEE them!!!

I would use mostly DMC, but I love working with silks for my Chatelaine designs. I also like the sparkle of metallics, but they are not my favourite thread to stitch with. I don't really have any favourite brands.

I'm a DMC girl. I like the feel of the silk but don't like sewing with it. Love the look of the metallics but I think it's my absolute worse thread to sew with.

I also use DMC - mostly. Once in a while Anchor, if the intructions say so and don't have DMC -colours ready (yes, I'm lazy to dig them out... LOL).
There is one kind of thread that I really love to use and that's silk floss. I've got just a few and I can't find them here in Finland :(
