Random Afternoon Question

When do you get excited about a project? Is it at the planning stages? At the start? When you're almost done? Or something in between?

Mine "ahah!!" moment is when I'm about 1/3 or 1/2 way through a project. By then, I've seen what the colors are doing and how everything is melding together. I can also envision what the finish will look like and how it will look on the wall.

Hubby was home sick today, so I went to work in the morning and took a half day. As a result, I finished the corner chrysanthemums for part 11 of Chinese Garden. The end is in sight... by now, I want to do nothing but stitch on it... :) Off to work on the purple phoenix...

Your chrysanthemums are gorgeous :D
I'm really loving your progress on Chinese Garden :D
Now answering your Random Question I would say I'm like a kid, because I get excited at the several phases of the project... I love the initial planning, gathering the threads, and choosing the fabric and dreaming of how it's going to be and so on... then because I get lost in between projects I love when I reach the goals I set, 1 page, 1/4 of the chart, 1/2... and I check wow I did this much Yay!!! Then it will be every moment I grab the project when I'm stitching the final stitches because I can see it finished... Finally when I finish the project is that excitement of finally finishing it :D. I think that's one of the reasons why I love cross-stitch so much :D

I love your Chinese Garden. It's lovely!

As for me, my two favorite times are starting a project and finishing it. *laughs* Mainly because then I know I can start a new project.

Those flowers came out beautifully!

My excting moment is when I take that first stitch, and then any time I finish something - a row, a 10 x 10, a color, a design element..but nothing beats that very first stitch for me, because all I have is hope at that point, without any knowledge of the parts I had to frog or aggravation with the thread or my speed.

The beginning few stitches and towards the end when I can't wait for the entire piece to be complete!!! LOOOOOVVVEEEE the mums!!! Sorry to hear hubby was sick but at least you got some stitching time in!! WHOOHOO!!!!

HMBW!!!

Your Chatelaine is coming along nicely--the mums are perfectly stitched and gorgeous! For me, I get excited planning a new project, but lately have noticed I lose interest midway... but push on to finish. Maybe I should stick with more smalls! Hugs!

That is so gorgeous Joyce!! Just love it!!! I get really hyped about a project right at the start and then again when i work on it again, and then at the finish. The middle can be hohum if I work on it alot at once so I rotate ;)

Two times - when I first kit it up and when I'm about 3/4 of the way through. I get so excited to start a new project just because it's brand new! But then I get really frustrated with it. When I'm at the 3/4 mark I get super excited and speed right through it - it's kind of ridiculous

OMG, gorgeous! Love how the specialty stitches add so much dimension to the 'mums.

I think my favorite part is the midway point. You can really see things coming together and then you are on the downhill slide to finishing. I hate starting new projects! The finish is great too because you get to admire your work. I leave it out for a few days just to gaze at it. lol

I love the first 1/3 the best - I usually stay excited about the project that long. The second third is really hard, and then I get excited during the last third. Weird.
Your mums look lovely!

Gorgeous stitching. I get excited at the beginning and about 3/4 of the way through. After 3/4 I get so excited I'm nearly finished it seems to take forever.

That is gorgeous!!! I usually zoom on excited for half the chart (or thereabouts) then loose steam, make myself pick it back up again eventually and once I get over that hump I fly along to the finish..... I love the excitement of the new chart, pulling the threads, choosing the fabric, those first few stitches.... bliss :D Then near the end I don't want to stop cause I'm so close to seeing it all done :D

At the start!! That is what i love the most, all the new materials....
CGM is looking gorgeous - almost at the finish line! I always get exciting at the planning stage and then the stash gathering stage. I love putting in the first stitches on a project, but always find myself getting into a bit of a slump when I am about 3/4 way through (sorry CGM!) and just need a push to get to the finish!

I like the planning, the almost there bit, the finishing before the backstitch and then the backstitch and most of all I LOVE giving it to someone :D I haven't kept anything that I have stitched.

I get most excited at the start of a project. To fondle, touch and smell a new project. To put your needle in untouched fabric...

The more I get on with it, the more I lose my interest because of my "is it almost finished" thinking, like a little kid "are we there yet" :-)

B.t.w. I love your chrysanthemums and the different stitches on it!

Your Chinese Garden piece is absolutely stunning!! I love the chrysanthemums!!!

My favorite moment in stitching is the beginning!! I love starting new projects! My problem is I lose interest quickly! When I do finish a project, the feeling of accomplishment is unbeatable! Go figure!

Oh, for me the best parts are when I can fondle the fabric and fibers (I'm quite a fondler 8-o )and when I finally get to the beading at the end. My least favorite is that endless 1/3 through. It seems to go on and on.

Love the mums!

Chinese Garden looks great! My favorite time is pulling the project together and planning. The last quarter of a project is my least favorite.
Your Chinese Garden is just stunning! Makes me want to tackle a Chatelaine myself. Thanks for being an enabler! For me, the most exciting part of a project is when I'm about 3/4 of the way through and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I begin to fantasize about what I'll start next!

I have many moments... I get excited when I'm trying to decide what to stitch, then when I'm starting and get really excited about the first page because it's shiny and new, then I get excited about the last page because it's nearly finished, and I'm also getting excited about picking something else... and so on!

My moment is the start, my hand almost quivers with the first stitch! Your chrysanthemums is outrageous, so envious!

beautiful stitching :D you're getting so close!

I get that moment many times. When I see everything kitted up and can just look at all the scrummy colours. Then its exciting as I watch the first elements come to life. Then as I near finishing it's very exciting. Actually I think I find the whole process exciting!

Oh this is incredibly gorgeous, Joysze. Your eyelets look amazing!!!

I think I hit peaks of excitement throughout...buying the chart, kitting up, first stitch, much progress, last stitch and then finishing. Sometimes the middle parts are tedious and every once in a while I'm flat chuffed the entire time!

So sorry DH is sick, hope he's feeling better.

Planning!! It's the thrill of the plan. I thoroughly enjoy the stitching but the planning phase really gets me going. Of course that would explain the too-many-to-admit-to kitted pieces I have.

The chrysanthemums are beautiful! Cheering you on to the finish!

I am most excited at the beginning, like the first day of a new project. I too get a little bored at times..and by the time I am backstitching I can't wait to be done with it!!!

Nice stitching by the way on your project!

Chinese Garden is bautiful! I love chrysanthemums as flowers and your stitched ones here are just gorgeous. On the afternoon question... well I love to start. Not the preparation for the project, the first few times when I get to stitch on it. Work seems to go faster too.

Love your Chinese Garden. This is definitely on my wishlist! Chatelaines are just so darn expensive, so I'll have to save up some serious money, and finish the 2 I already have!
